February 9, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join Teen Empowerment Mentor, Jen Fitz-Roy for virtual Valentine’s Day Party on February 9th at 7PM! Jen will lead a conversation on Black History Month and a mosaic-making tutorial! Mosaics will be in the style of Alma Thomas. Supplies will be shipped in advance of the party. Registration closes on February 4th. REGISTER FOR THE PARTY HERE About Alma Thomas (1892-1978): Alma Thomas dedicated herself to art full-time after retiring from 35 years of work as a junior high art teacher. Thomas exhibited her first work of abstract art in 1966. Her mosaics are made up of small painted shapes rather than traditional mosaic materials like paper, glass, or tile. Thomas’ work has been exhibited in the White House on three occasions. She was the first African American woman to have her art exhibited at the New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art. “Man’s highest aspirations come from nature. A world without color would seem dead. Color is life. Light is the mother of color. Light reveals to us the spirit and living soul of the world through colors.”

–Alma Thomas
